[Meta] Just wanted to say a quick thank you to the mods and contributors of this awesome sub.

by txby432

Can we take a second to just appreciate the mods and contributors on here.

I am a nerd, plain and simple. About a year ago I found this sub and it is my favorite way to kill 1-10 minutes when I have to. I love the questions and all of the great information that is provided by those that comment. I have learned so much, and it is all because of the dedication and diligence of the moderators here.

Every time I go into the comment section, they have already purged the bad information and silly comments, leaving the good and accurate information that I am looking for. I’m also super appreciative of their fact checking and only providing the most accurate and up to date information. So keep it up mods, your work is not going unnoticed.

As a mod I'd like to make a special shout-out to the flaired experts here. The moderation here attracts a lot of attention, but without the flairs this sub would be... well... /r/AskReddit :)

Thanks for investing so much of your own time into knowledge-sharing and outreach, and especially thank you for choosing this forum to work in. It's an unending source of amazement to see the effort you put in; the level of professionalism here makes it a personal pleasure to moderate this space. Cheers.

Everyone here is saying the Mods are great for running a tight ship, but none of you are providing or citing sources. You are all hypocrites!

They're really, very, so wonderful.

But to make this more interesting, what would a world be like, if it was ruled under the (benevolent) dictatorship of the r/AskHistorian Mods?

Besides the fact that debating new legislation wouldn’t be allowed since it'd violate the Twenty-year Rule.

And, no political campaigning would be allowed. Not because it would be a threat to their (benevolent) dictatorship, but because of the No Soapboxing Rule.

Enigma_789

I would like to second this. This is my first post in this sub. Not even sure how I found it, but I subscribed here a while ago. I know full well should I post in a normal thread I will have an appendage shot off. This is as it should be, as I am not a historian, just a guy who plays too much Europa Universalis. Also a guy who loves learning things.

In an aside, through this sub I found r/askscience and as I am a scientist, both are useful.

Therefore, my plea to moderators: never disavow your pulpits of fire and brimstone. Never step back from wielding your various armaments from a hundred civilisations and a dozen centuries. Defend knowledge from all those who would disparage, dilute or disintegrate it. In these times of anti-intellectualism please keep us in the age of enlightenment and not the oft misinterpreted dark ages.

Thank you, and keep up with the excellent work, moderators and contributors all.

crazy_raconteur

This sub is fantastic.

Great mods. Great mods. Great mods.

It's always super interesting and accurate. I have always loved history and there are questions here I wouldn't even think to ask.

The comments are almost always friendly and informative.

Did I mention the mods are fucking awesome.

Best on Reddit. Legitimately

Because we are all throwing roses now, I wanted to thank a lot for the people doing the podcast, I am a huge fan. I have to say I also really like how the mesoamerican history expert (username with something rabbit...?) is moderating it!

I mean, seriously, I learned so much with this podcast, it is just insane. Although I also gained a perspective on how much I do not know.

Luminya1

A hearty me too!! I love this sub and loving coming here. I learn something new everytime. Thank you so much for your hard work!

unclenoriega

So say we all!

-whodatninja-

Agreed! I find myself wishing every sub had such standards. Thank you!

HeyFlo

Wait, this is all very off topic! Are you all drunk?

Luxtenebris3

I know the mods here take a lot of undeserved flak for have such stringent rules regarding answering questions. I want you all to know that I appreciate the rules here. They do a lot, along with the enforcement of them, to keep the quality of this sub high.

P_Grammicus

Wonderful mods and superb commenters. The amount of work that both put into this sub is massive, and it shows. This is one of the finest bits of the internet, let alone reddit.

SilverRoyce

I agree! perhaps my "optimal" /r/ashistorians has a ~5% less strict comment policy but the flairs, high quality answers and (repeated) polls of the subreddit combine to convince me that this really is an optimal subreddit moderation policy.

The mods really do deserve a hand for being both considerate to rule breakers (as I was too much when I first popped into this sub 3 years ago on a different account) and holding a firm high quality bar. After spending too much time on reddit it really is amazing how patient the /r/askhistorians mods are.

It's a sincere credit to the sub that I've changed my mind about the moderation due to nothing other than the sub continuing longstanding policies while being very transparent about what users think.

badken

Totally agreed. This is by far my favorite sub, both because of the moderators, and because of the contributors. They are always so enthusiastic about their area of expertise! I've read so many fascinating and entertaining historical stories here. I can't imagine anywhere else where I'd find such variety and enlightenment.

steelcurtain87

I love this sub purely because of the rigidness of the structure and the rules for it.

Have people thought about adding a TL;DR cause honestly I sometimes tail out by your genius with references

A_Crazed_Hobo

the best run subreddit on this website, there's no doubt about it to me

JarJar-PhantomMenace

This is a top quality sub.

goeasyonmitch

Yep. Thanks mods and historians. Don't take any guff from these swine. (Myself included)

IlluminatiRex

Definitely my favorite sub, and I'm glad I've been able to answer a few questions (hopefully thoroughly) and gotten some great answers as well!

streetbum

Every once in a while when I see the mods getting some shit I'll send them a PM thanking them. People who come here from the front page or bestof sometimes get mad because of how strict it is but without that this place would not be what it is. And without the knowledge of the mods themselves running the ship so tightly would not be possible.

I have only been able to post in the subreddit on a non-meta post one time. That was probably my proudest Reddit moment.

Vanderkaum037

The other day I posted a comment, then deleted it myself because I realized it probably wasn't up to the community's standards.

Shaigair

I dont know if this is the right place to ask, but I own some pins and badges from the Czechoslovakia. Would i be able to post a picture and ask what they are?

sunsetrules

Uh, this post has no cited sources and does not meet the qualifications. This post will be deleted immediately!

dietcheese

Long time lurker here. Thanks contributors and mods - this is consistently one of my favorite reddits due to the quality, in-depth, educational posts. Really appreciate the time you all put in to this!

piggybankcowboy

This sub should be the model which other subs aspire to. You folks make my morning coffee taste a bit better. Thank you for all the free learning!

AlviseFalier

I always say this as unironically as possible:

All hail the Mod overlords!

Sehnsucht__

Like every sub at first is filled with totally new stuff and you're amazed at the content. Then with time you start to notice that it's always the same stuff that gets asked and upvoted, especially mainstream uninteresting/stupid questions (in Game of Thrones they slayed a dragon, so is it true that in Medieval times there were shy Japanese guys banging romantic girls with super-boobs? NO.). While many interesting questions don't get answered because they don't reach enough upvotes.

I saw and by now I know that many of my questions wouldn't get enough upvotes, so I simply stopped to post them. In the end, it's first and foremost Reddit and it's made by redditors... a question about how crazy was Hitler will always have more upvotes than a question about military evolution in Victorian times.

Every now and then it's an interesting sub anyway.

Cthulia

This sub, the awesome mods, and the excellent contributers are the cat's unforsaken roar. Y'all da bes.
