I'm in the middle of reading a Regency romance historical documents, and there's a letter written by one of the characters that has words capitalized for seemingly no reason. I'm confused by it. As a modern reader, it sounds in my head like the writer (a young woman) means to emphasize those words, but then it sounds kind of... overwrought.
For example: "Dear Charles: When you Read this I shall be Embarking on an Adventure completely Inspired by You."
In my head it sounds like "Dear Charles: When you READ this I shall be EMBARKING on an ADVENTURE completely INSPIRED by YOU." Which sounds kind of ridiculous.
