When cars were first being introduced, where there groups of people that were afraid of giving up horse travel?

For instance today we have people that really don't want automatic cars and love driving, many of them also feel nostalgic for cars in the past. Did this sort of thing go on with horses and buggy's at the time?

When I was stationed overseas, the Armed Frorces Network was our English Language Television. Non comercial, so instead of adds we'd get history and military related facts. One was that when the automobile was first introduced, cars had to stop and move to the side of the road whenever there was an incoming horse drawn buggy to keep the animals from getting scared. If the Horse was still agitated then you'd have to turn off the engine, failing that you were supposed to cover the car with a tarp. If that didn't work then you'd have to completely dismantle the car and wait for the horse/s to pass by and then put it back together and go in your merry way. There were not that many cars, they were expensive, and most people didn't think they'd ever replace horse drawn carriages.
