Hey all,
I have usually read cultural histories or histories of movements. I've typically steered away from Great Men Histories or histories of nations/wars. However, as of late, I've read both Bolivar: American Liberator and Ty Cobb: A Terrible Beauty and found them both excellent. Both have reignited an interest in national histories. As a result, I'm looking for recommendations of histories of West Africa (particularly Senegal, Guinea, Liberia, Cote d'Ivoire, Mauritania, or Ghana) or Chile. I'd be interested in reading about Pinochet or West African figures as well.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you!
The foremost expert in the english speaking world on the history of Chile is William F. Sater. He and Simon Collier wrote an excellent overview of Chilean history, "A History of Chile: 1808-2002" (Cambrige University Press). This will most likely suit your needs.
