I was visiting the Topography of Terror museum in Berlin today, and in one of the exhibits was a wall with the photographs of those arrested/questioned for their political leanings. E.g. communist, social democrat, etc. However there were a few with European Union written instead other political affiliations. Can anyone give me more details about it?

The European Union was the name of a resistance circle centered around the Berlin physician Georg Groscurth. The group held political positions akin to the SPD (ie loosely Marxist, and geared towards creating a socialism that transected national boundaries) and had connections to the KPD. The circle also aided some Jews and forced laborers. The Gestapo broke the circle in 1943, arresting Groscurth and other members of the group, including the pictured Herbert Richter, an architect involved in the group's activities. The People's Court sentenced the circle's leadership to death and other members of the group either died in custody or were imprisoned until the Allied liberation.
