I've recently heard it claimed that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was added specifically to allow slave masters to put down slave rebellions on their land. How accurate is that claim?

This claim was made without citing any sources, but the claim maker specifically mentioned that Virginia demanded word changes.

It is a theory that I believe is primarily advanced by Carl T. Bogus, but doesn't have too much headway in academia that I've encountered. We've had a few threads on the 2nd Amendment before which you should check out. This one by /u/fatherazerun and this one by /u/uncovered-history are good overviews even if they don't specifically touch on his contention, while this older thread does bring it up tangentially.
