Looking for a book on the Crovan dynasty and the Kingdom of Mann And The Isles

There really is only one book specifically on the subject: Manx Kingship in Its Irish Sea Setting, 1187–1229: King Rǫgnvaldr and the Crovan Dynasty by R. Andrew McDonald.

As you can tell from the title, it is primarily concerned with the reign of Rǫgnvaldr Óláfsson (aka Reginald), but it does cover the entire history of the dynasty, from Godred Crovan down to Magnús Óláfsson.

While McDonald has faced some criticism - mainly centered on some of the conclusions he draws when faced with a lack of primary sources - the book is well-regarded, and is considered good scholarship. In the words of Michael H. Gelting: "that the book needs to be consulted with an alert critical mind does not detract from its merits: anyone attempting to construct a coherent history of the Manx kings from the extremely fragmentary sources is bound to do so by means of more or less debatable hypotheses."

Best i can recommend are Wars of Scotland 1214-1371 by Michael Brown and Domination and Lordship: Scotland, 1070-1230 by Richard Oram.

I actually took Brown's class at St. Andrews and the man knows what he's talking about. Lots of juicy information about the Hebrides, kingdom of the isles, Crovan, the Galloglaigh, etc. Enjoy!
