So I was wondering, as far as I know many tradesmen would travel to different places because the demand for their skills wasn't high enough in a single place (The typical example would be a travelling tinker or dentist).
Was the same ever the case for executioners? I'm asking mostly about the medival period, but any time period would be fine.
Another question, was being an executioner considered a trade in the usual sense or was a local sheriff/soldier used to carry out the execution?
