Dunkirk

by Brucepat

After WW2 was over, did any of the German military reveal the actual reason that they paused and allowed the British army to escape to fight another day ? The standard reason is Hitler was hoping for a peace treaty with England, was this actually confirmed by any high level Germans ?

There was no noble reason that they stopped. They were at the limit of their supply lines and needed a few days for supplies to catch up. They were far more successful at defeating the French army and BEF than anyone expect. The assault into Belgium was supposed to be a feint to draw the British and French away from Paris.
