Why did Da Vinci put these symbols into his painting The Last Supper? (Image Included)

I found these symbols in the Last Supper painting but I cant figure out what they mean.

The closest I could find is that it may be some form of short hand, and the symbols themselves appear similar to the ones found in the Voynich Manuscript.

Any ideas?

I agree that they look like simple fasteners. It's also useful to remember that details in the work might not be original Leonardo. Restorers estimate that approximately 43% of the fresco is Leonardo; 40% is the work of restorers in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries; and 18% is lost. (Yes, that's 101%; that's why "approximately.")

Although they look like astrology symbols in some cases, I believe they are just representative of the fasteners.
