I have always had an innate interest in history and really want to start diving into it. I tend to have a long attention span, so I am fine if the content is not necessarily entertaining. Thanks so much for reading. I can't wait to hear your suggestions!
Not sure specifically what you are asking, but essentially to become a 'proper' historian, you need to get to the primary sources. What subject you are interested in and where you live will make this more or less difficult. Take as your starting point the bibliography of an academic piece of work which you like. Locate the primary sources and go read them and write about it! You are now doing history.
If you asking about becoming an academic historian, this is a slightly different question, and will usually require a PhD.
