Where can I find all of the Icelandic Sagas?

by ILoveNomads

Interested in reading the sagas but I need help locating them. There's...what? About 40 of them right? Any collections you guys know of that has all of them in one or two volumes? The best I've been able to find is a collection of about twenty.

The Complete Sagas of Icelanders published by Leifur Eiriksson publishing is the only collection I know of that has all of them. It's a 5 volume set, each volume is ~800 pages. Includes about 50 Icelandic "Tales" as well. These are basically short stories usually somewhere around 5-10 pages as I recall.

It's a pretty awesome set though. They got a bunch of Norse scholars who are native English speakers to do the initial translations, then sent those to a set of Icelandic medieval scholars to edit for accuracy. The edited second drafts were then sent to another set of native English speakers to edit for readability.

Now I have not had the opportunity to read the full 5 volume set but I do have The Sagas of Icelanders published by Penguin Classics which is a collection of some of the more famous Sagas and uses the translations from The Complete Sagas, so am happy to vouch for the whole set sight unseen. The selections I've read have been phenomenal.

That's of course assuming you want to read English translations. Other languages would be a whole other kettle of fish. Also, keep in mind that it is just the ~40 family sagas. Stuff like Landnamabok, Kristni Saga, Heimskringla, and Sturlunga Saga are not included.
