I was playing the Total War game set around 400 CE as the Aksumites. I was wondering why they, despite their proximity and close ties with the Arabian peninsula, did not get conquered during the Arab conquest of the surrounding areas. Was there an attempt to invade the region that failed?
I am not sure how much of this is historical truth and how much myth, but when Mohammed faced discrimination by the Quraish, he sent some of his followers, including his daughters, for protection. The Empire of Aksum (ancient Ethiopia) treated them well, and refused to return them to the Quraish. Muhammad, great ful for this, told his followers to leave Ethiopia alone unless Ethiopia took aggressive action Muslims.
