Hello! Just as the title states, I am looking for books to read that details the histories of Scandinavia. I am keenly interested in learning more about this region's history, and I figured that this would be the best place to ask for resources. Thanks in advance!
There are two that I would suggest to you.
Derry, T.K. A History of Scandinavia: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland University of Minnesota Press, 2000.
This book will be a great in depth view of Scandinavia. Derry gives great insight especially in the evolution of the political culture. That being said, Derry does not neglect other aspects of Scandinavia's history. It is a great starting place.
The second I would recommend is:
Sawyer, Birgit and Peter Sawyer. Medieval Scandinavia: From Conversion to Reformation, circa 800-1500. University of Minnesota, 1993.
This one, as the title implies, is more focused on medieval Scandinavia. I include this because there has been a rise in popularity of the Viking Age and medieval Scandinavia. This volume is best described as meticulous. It goes into great depth about the development of medieval Scandinavia and looks critically at the assumptions and evidence that we have for the period.
