My husband is listening to "The Time Traveler's Guide to Elizabethan England" By Ian Mortimer. His sounds so interesting! I am listening to it when he finishes, but what are some similar books that take you back in time to give you 'a day in the life' view?
This is cheating, but, Mortimer's Time Traveler's Guide to Fourteenth-Century England should be your next stop. It's wonderful, and quite thoroughly cited.
Greenwood Press has a whole series of "daily life" books, whose quality varies a little by author but are generally pretty good. However, they tend to be oddly dry, whereas you can tell Mortimer really loves what he's writing about.
For kids of all ages, I love the "You Wouldn't Want to..." books.
I really like Ruth Goodman's "how to be a Tudor" and "how to be a Victorian". If you enjoy those you can also check out the BBC shows with Goodman like Tales from the Green Valley, Tudor Monastery Farm, Secrets of the Castle, etc. They give a more "year in the life" look at different time periods in English history.
