/r/AskHistorians, I'm traveling to Barcelona in the fall, what are some cool historical sites or museums to check out?

by ALSAwareness

I'm going to be there in mid October and was wondering if this subreddit had any recommendations for interesting places to visit in the city of Barcelona that have historical significance. I'm staying very near the Gothic quarter, I figured that would be an excellent staging ground. Hope this is acceptable under the sub-rules.

thanks!

If you're interested in Gaudi then the Sagrada Familia is an absolute must. It's been over a century in the making and they are finally on the last leg of the build.

The El Born market is a fabulous archaeological site and is a great insight into Barcelona of the 1700's- it's quite cheap to visit too.

Gothic quarter is extremely beautiful and is the historic heart of the city. It's also where the Museo d'Historia de la Cuitat is based. The remaining Roman columns from the temple of Augustus can also be found hidden in an alleyway.

For a 'blink and you'll miss it' historic find; in El Raval there used to be a house of mercy dating back to the 16th century and the 18th century turntable that was set into the side of the building to accept alms, donations or unwanted babies anonymously is still there.
