I tried searching in the sub to no avail. Myself and my friends can't decide on whether it was economic oppression from the North or slavery.
There's an excellent answer from a couple of months ago on a very similar question by /u/georgy_k_zhukov in this thread: Why was there a Civil War? Why could that one not have been worked out?
