What type of hacker/security shenanigans were going on in the early years of the internet when users weren't as concerned about security?

There must have been a lot of stuff going down while everyone's password was 'password' and routers were wide open.

I'm not sure when you are thinking...

Home routers came around about the same time as wifi maybe after 2005 ish, but clearly within the 20 year rule.

I'm not sure one could even talk about the internet without breaking the 20 year rule. Internet explorer came out in 96 and cost $20. Most of the internet was still custom protocols like nntp(Usenet), ftp, email.

The 80s and early 90s were still the bbs era.

Most of the shenanigans that could be talked about here are the early phreakers, the legion of doom, Captain crunch and The Woz all have great stories.

I know the archives of phrack magazine is still online, you might find them interesting.

There is also a ton of unix era fun, i always love the jargon file entries on this but there is a ton a fun stuff to read through on the Usenet archives as well.
