I going to let this known first: I am NOT saying all Japanese people are bad or evil. However, we need discuss how the Japanese government denies some of the war crimes they have committed during WW2. Yes, people of Japan have been convicted of being war criminals, but based on how Abe Shinzo gave service at the Yaskuni, a shrine that honors some Class A War Criminals, the government does not show any signs of repentance. There is also the issue with comfort women. The Japanese military were known for forcing many Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese etc women into becoming sex slaves for the soldiers. Even worse, they raped premature women and forced an abortion by cutting the stomach if any of them became pregnant. However, Japan has never issued a full on, proper apology on this issue. Unit 731, a military unit which performed vivisection (dissection of a live person) and other brutal human experiements, was granted immunity by the US government. No significant process of acknowledgement has been provided by the Japanese government due to "lack of evidence". Another example can be with Battleship Island, which forced Korean into hard labor in the coal mines. The island became a UNESCO Heritage Site due to its contributions to the boost of Japanese economy, under the condition that it acknowledges the forced labor. To this day, there is no hint of acknowledgement on the island or on its website. Furthermore, Japan is failing to educate their students on the full history, with the textbooks not going into details of the war crimes. This is very different from Germany, where the government built museums and memorials to educate their citizens of the wrongdoings if the Nazis during the Holocaust. I believe that this issue is very serious and needs to be addressed. What to you all think?
Edit: there is also the issue with the Liancourt Rocks aka Dokdo in Korean and Takeshita in Japanese but I'll leave that for later.
More can be said on this, but /u/asiaexpert responded to a related question which you might find insightful.
