Growing my mom would tell me that people used to think that tomatoes were poisonous. A royal chef was almost executed for trying to serve tomatoes to a French King, no idea which one, and he was forced to eat them to prove they were not, in fact, poisonous.
Is there any truth to this story? And if so, when did tomatoes become a regular food item?
Hi, there's lots of room for more detail on this, but fyi you can get started on these older posts
