Are there any historical accounts of people who saw a total eclipse, only to be put to death when they traveled to the next town and tried to tell people about it?

No. To be sure, I have not checked through every written record in known history, but it is a fairly self-evident answer to your question.

Eclipses are not localized events. The cover wide swathes of land, and not only in the path that they cover, but laterally on either side. Check out this map from NASA. As you can see, the path of totality is big, roughly 70 miles wide alone, while the span of 98+ percent coverage is three times that, roughly 210 miles wide. Simply put, if someone experienced an eclipse, the people in the next town over did to, and even outside totality, those within any reasonable distance experienced enough coverage of the sun to be aware something was happening.
