Vikings and Valhalla

by Armadyllo

I know that a lot of what 'is known' about Vikings is largely a myth i.e. the fact that not every Scandinavian went 'a Viking'. For those that stayed at home, or were not warriors, did they aspire to enter Valhalla? Was there a separate heaven for non-combatants? Also, I guess, what would the ratio be of warriors to civilians? (I'm sure that warriors would have returned to fishing or agriculture during the winter, but I'm specifically enquiring about those who never fought).

Thanks!

Here is an answer I posted a bit ago dealing with some of the ideas surrounding the Viking afterlife and Valhalla. It doesn't directly address your main question, but it touches a bit on some salient points. If you want me to explain/expand anything, just let me know.
