Was giving the logistic priority to Montgomery over Patton the right decision in September 1944?

Or should the Allies instead have crossed the Siegfried line?

From a strategical point of view, giving him priority would mean to renounce to the Escaut river to secure the port of Antwerp and the capture of the Ruhr industrial region. Instead, his project of solo charge would made him advance through the Saar (an industrial region but much less decisive than the Ruhr) and the region of Frankfort which would let him in a delicate situation, having his 2 flanks exposed in a dead end with all the strategical objectives (Berlin, the political center, the Ruhr the economic center; and Antwerp a very welcome center since the supply lines are coming through Cherbourg, Normandy...) nowhere to be reach.

From a tactical and operational point of view, Patton's logistical shortage came earlier (from the 31st of August to the 4th of September), in fact Patton had the resources to win but he lost momentum and was unable to build a real operational sequence, leading to a stalemate in Lorraine for 3 months (Not to dismiss Patton abilities, this was easily one of his poorest performance of the war).
