What I want to know is how exactly was the transition from your typical medieval "knight in shining armor" to the, way less armored, rifle/gun wielding unit. Do these two types of "warriors"/amries ever clashed in battle?. Just as with naval warfare, were there ever ships fitted with cannons going against more primitive types of ships?. Maybe due to one (or a few) nations having that kind of technological advantage over others.
Or was it more of an even change for everyone?. Like, as soon as guns were really usefull and cheap to make, everyone just kind of threw away their bows, big swords and heavy armour and picked up a gun (I'm exaggerating, obv).
Ps. My knowledge in history is quite thin. So, my apologies in advance if I said something really stupid. And thank you for taking your time!.
The period between the introduction of gunpowder in Europe and the disappearance of lance-armed heavy cavalry spans over 200 years, from roughly the 14th to the later 16th century.
u/Valkine discusses the early history of gunpowder here while I discuss the impact of gunpowder on armour (particularly that of heavy cavalry) here.
