Did knights and foot soldiers bring along siege engine specialists when they went on a campaign that could include a siege? Where did the "engineers" learn their skills?
Follow up question, would these specialists be experts in one specific type of seige engine or would they be a jack of all trades in terms of seige engine constriction.
Another follow Up question: discussions on mercenaries have been popular on askhistorians lately, were there mercenary companies whoms trade were siege and siege equipment? How did specialists get conscripted/contracted and how did the specialists give out their skills?
