Hi r/AskHistorians,
I'm searching for a potential event in chinese history.
During a war, is there a dynasty which has been completely wiped out by surprise during a family reunion ?
Why I'm asking this ?
In the lore of Star Citizen, a crowdfunded video game in development, we know that alien species and geopolitical situations are very widely inspired by the human history : the splitted human empire is becoming the Roman Empire, Vanduuls are vandals, Tevarins are japanese, Banus are arabs, Perry Line is the Iron Curtain, etc...
The Xi'Ans, an alien civilization, is totally inspired by Chinese history, even their name is chinese. And it is said that during a war, one of their dynasty has been completely wiped out by surprise during a family reunion, by another civilization, which we know nothing about. (source)
Seeing how the lore of this game mirror our human history, I'm pretty sure this event happened during chinese history.
Or maybe it's just pure invention.
But I'm curious.
Thanks by advance. I hope my question doesn't sound stupid.
Can you please rephrase or explained more in detail in what you mean in ''completely wiped out by surprise during a family reunion''. Because I think you are asking a really specific manner in which a dynasty fall. Most dynasties before the fall already experienced a period of decline, whether be deterioration of Imperial power/decentralization (Tang) or suffers from a major fiscal crisis (Ming), in both cases a combination of agrarian revolt and nomadic raids from the steppe. So they tend to be slow, agonizing before being finished off by certain external stimulate.
