What do you mean by return home? To my knowledge, Alexander died somewhere around modern day Afghanistan or Iran. I don't think he ever went back to Greece or macedon. Adding to this, the successors all split off from his empire, and many of them were generals in his army and so they took parts of the army with them to establish their own empires.
