And could anyone give some explanation about who Steiner was and the other names given and things, sorry if this question has been asked before, i just love history :-)
Assuming you're referring to the infamous scene with all the memes - by the way, there's a highly amusing AskHistorians version of the meme by /u/kieslowskifan - there's definitely more scope for more analysis of that specific scene and its context and accuracy. However, in regards to 'Downfall':
/u/georgy_k_zhukov discusses the portrayal of Hitler in Downfall in answer to In pop culture, Hitler is often depicted seething with rage, and almost cartoonishly quick to anger. Is this depiction based on actual evidence and firsthand accounts of his demeanor, or has he been caricatured over the years?; and
/u/kaisermatias discusses what the film is based on in answer to How historically accurate is the film Downfall?
Hope that helps!
Okay I will go through the scene line by line and explain what is meant by each line.
The scene takes place on the 22nd of April 1945 which is when Hitler was informed that the Steiner Assault was not going to happen. So lets take it from there
They have taken Zossen to the South and are advancing to Stanhsdorf
Zossen refers to a town that is 20km south of Berlin and looking at the map he is pointing to he is pointing to Zossen. Zossen was taken by the 3rd Armoured Guard on the 20th of April 1945 which is accurate for the film which takes place over the last 10 days of Hitlers life. Stansdorf is the next town between Zossen and Berlin so far so good. If slightly out of date for the 22nd of April
They are on the Northern Outskirts between Fronau and Pankow.
Again this is accurate for the 22th of April, the battle for Berlin was underway and Soviet artillery was in position to shell central Berlin at this time. The same for the next line which describes the Soviet pushing from the east of Berlin into the city.
Steiner will lead an attack, Steiner has no men.
SS-Obergruppenführer Felix Steiner was a SS General which at the time was in charge of Army Detachment Steiner which on the 21st of April was ordered like in the film to attack the Soviets in a pincer movement. The conference on the 22nd where Hitler was told that Steiner will not attack did occur as seen in the film. It is desribed that when Hitler found out the attack was not going to happen that he fell into a tearful rage and declared the war lost.
The following men will stay Keital Jodl Krebs and Burgdorf
Keitel was the head of the German High Command and was the third highest ranking Nazi to be executed following the Nuremberg trials
Jodl was the Chief of the Operations Staff of the Armed Forces High Command he was also executed following the Nuremberg Trials.
Krebs was the Chief of the Army General Staff and killed himself on the 2nd of May before he could be captured by the Soviets
Burgdorf was Chief of the Army Personnel Office and the Chief Adjutant to Hitler.
So as you can see these four men where all high ranking Nazi's and the kind of person you would have the meeting as depicted in the film with.
The rest of the scene is made up of Hitler ranting about the Generals and declaring the war lost.
This is also true once Hitler found out that Steiner was not going to attack is when he admitted the war was lost and made the decision that he was not going to leave Berlin and was going to kill himself.
So overall the scene is very accurate. The position of the soviet troops was roughly right for the 22nd of April. Hitler did find out that the Steiner assault was not going to happen on the 22nd of April and when he did find out he reacted in basically the way scene in a film with a tearfull rant about the generals followed by the decision to kill himself and admit the war is over.
