I've heard that explosives and firearms brought about the end of castles and knights in armor. But when did it become dominate for kings or rulers to outfit their armies with firearms? Where did it become common? My understanding is that the first firearms took much longer than a bow and arrow to reload. So when one army was outfitting themselves with firearms, why didn't the other get more horses and charge them down before they could reload?
