Hi all,
I hope this doesn't violate the rules of the subreddit, as I know this isn't a direct question, but I am looking for help from good historians for a source I once came across in this subreddit. I will try to describe it best I can.
I remember seeing it in a discussion about the Confederate states' reasons for secession. Basically it was a table of each state and their own independent declarations of secession. More importantly, it highlighted the specific bits where slavery was explicitly mentioned as a reason for secession, helping to support the notion that the Civil War was about slavery. The source was online (a website somewhere, not a journal or book).
If you're familiar with this source, or something similar, please provide it. Thank you.
I don't know of that specific example, but the declarations of causes for secession are pretty common online. Only four states put out official statements, though there's abundant evidence that they're all on the same page in saving slavery. The best one-stop compilation is here with more documents still available on the main index. In any of these cases you'd have to go through and find the slavery bits yourself, but most of them make frequent direct reference to it by name.
