I recently read a paper on the CIA's website that was Cold War era intel from the wart 80's and it said that the Soviets believed the FRG could field 155-160 divisions in a short time. This surprised me and made me wonder what would these units be equipped with? Any information on West German or other NATO mobilization plans is welcome.
Well I haven't studied the 80s that much but that claim sounds quite fantastical. In the early 1950s the question wasn't as much joue many German divisions but whether the allies would even allow German rearmament at all. But even the French, the most opposed to rearming Germany, realized that the threat from the ussr couldn't be stopped without German manpower.
But even then, early estimates as Germany joined nato in 1955 expected 5 divisions on mobilisation, climbing to 12 by 1962 or 1963. Nato as a whole set their goal in Europe to having 25 ready divisions with 25 more on M+30.
For the 1950s, I wrote another post on nato and wp in general: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/6eia5s?sort=confidence
As to the 1980s, I've seen figures that full mobilizing and reinforcing from the U.S. and France (Who was outside the integrated military structure at the time) would amount to 130 divisions at most for the European area. I don't know figures for just Germany, but it was no where near the figure you cite.
