Hey, first time posting here.
So i've been reading a bit on Alexander The Greats Wikipedia Page and i came across this
Wich translates to
Immediatly after the Army left, the Smaller Indian states rebelled against the left behind Veterans, whos destiny is in the rarest cases documented
I am basically looking for those rarest cases documented, it absolutely fascinates me what those man must have went through so i am looking for all possible sources about the left behind Veterans of Alexander in India. Thanks in Advance!
Alexander left behind high ranking officers of his army as Satraps in India and parts of Bactria (Afghanistan); there may have been smaller rebellions right after his army left, but for the most part, Satraps managed to keep power.
The decisive banishment of Alexander's satraps came when Chanakya and Chandragupt Maurya founded the Maurya empire. They defeated and conquered the Satraps left behind by Alexander in Seleucid–Mauryan war; Seleucus I Nicator, Satrap of Babylon, who had annexed the entire Eastern part of Alexander's empire, was defeated.
After being defeated by Chandragupta, Seleucus exchanged the Eastern portion of his territories in the Indus River Valley for a considerable force of 500 war elephants, which would play a decisive role in his later wars in Mediterranean for control of Alexander's empire. He won (with help of the elephants) and founded the Seleucid empire.
