Like many of the good people on Reddit I grew up through an American public school system - as such I feel as though my knowledge of the history of the world is a little lacking. I love to read and while this is not r/books I was hoping history buffs might be able to point me in the direction of some really not boring books (or podcasts) on histories of specific countries in Africa and South America, especially books written by people in those countries and translated into English. The scope of what I want to know about is so broad that I'm at a loss on where to begin but my Barnes and Nobles has exactly 7 nonfiction books on those two continents and I'm upset about it.
