Good books on the expansion of Islam?

by HowdoIreddittellme

My apologies if this is a poor sub for this, but does anyone here know any good books on the expansion of Islam?

Sure! The best introductory text of the past few years for the initial conquests is probably Robert Hoyland's In God's Path. The classic multivolume covering the entire scope of Islamic expansion and society more generally is Marshall Hodgson's The Venture of Islam, in three volumes.

As a followup, if you haven't seen it you might also want to have a look at our /r/AskHistorians book list (this is the Middle East section): https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/wiki/books/middleeast

Are there any specific countries/territories or aspects of the expansion of Islam that interest you? :)
