So today I was surprised to learn that the Soviet Union espoused the idea of complete gender equality in 1917. That seemed remarkable to me, but then I even read that they also decriminalized homosexuality at the same time.
Was this simply lip service? Was it truly implemented? And how the heck were they so progressive on these social fronts in the early 20th century?
More can be said here as I only focus narrowly on natalist policy, but this old answer of mine should give you insight into women's rights in the USSR.
