It seems commonplace in Europe for many sports teams' fans to have political affiliations of some sort; in contrast it seems anathema to much of American sports culture. Was it always like this? If not, when was the change?
Wow. As an American, I had no idea Europe's sports were politically charged, even as as Anglophile. I'm not doubting the validity of your viewpoint; I want to learn more, so could you point to anything that gives that indication?
