Did people in the past really burn their wounds to seal them and stop bleeding?

I see it a lot in movies, period settings as well as present day action films. The hero gets a bleeding wound and burns his wound to seal it.

Is this a modern day thing?

Found this answer which is more or less what I was looking for in the history of cauterizing wounds.
