Question about Model 1915 German Stielhandgranate

by redditoverki11

Hello, I'm looking for some information on the M15 Stielhandgranate, which is as far as I can find the first Stielhandgranate ever produced.

Some pictures have a sticker(?) or stencil(?) on the side of the charge that says "Vor Gebrauch Sprengkapsel Einsetzen", which means "Before Use, Insert Detonator". The problem is I don't know what this means in relation to the usage of the grenade. One source I found says that this was put on the grenade during production as a reminder to the people inserting detonators, but I've seen another sources saying that this is for the user (thrower) of the grenade.

I would have to assume this is for the manufacturer as the usage of the grenade consists of pulling the string at the bottom and throwing, nothing to do with inserting a detonator, but maybe I'm mistaken.

My main question is, was this "stencil" or "sticker" saying to insert the detonator removed before they were shipping out? Some pictures have the words on the grenade and others don't, and information about the Grenade is sparse (It's >100 years old now...).

Any help would be appreciated. Also, if you have any pictures of the grenade (hopefully those of the bottom of the wooden handle, where there is a knob extrusion where the ignition string hangs out)

Thank you! Here are some pictures of the M15 Stielhandgranate: http://www.passioncompassion1418.com/decouvertes/ImagesDecouvertes/Grenades/Grenade%20manche8.jpg

Grenades were generally shipped and stored without the detonators in place for safety reasons. Seeing as how hand grenades were a recent addition to the arms of the infantry the label is there to remind soldiers that detonators have to be inserted before they are taken into battle. Before action the grenade would be prepared by removing the head and inserting the detonator into the "paper tube for detonator" and then reassembling the grenade.
