I apologise if this is against the rules but I'm looking for a book that goes over the politics and history of Germany before, during, and after the two world wars. I find this period absolutely fascinating and want to learn more. This sub has some seriously knowledgeable people on it so any recs would be cool.
Ian Kershaw, To Hell and Back: Europe, 1914-1949. While it is about Europe (not just Germany), Kershaw is primarily a German historian. I've not yet read it myself but I've heard great things about it, and the author (Kershaw) is a compelling writer and fantastic historian.
Also not to be missed is Richard Evans, Coming of the Third Reich.. though it's primarily about the rise of Nazism, as you can tell from the title.
A great history of Weimar Germany is Eric Weitz, Weimar Germany: Promise and Tragedy which covers a lot of the great cultural stuff that Evans' book skips.
