I mean as in uniform, dress and appearance. There are several depictions I've seen but I don't know which one is the correct one.
These are the two main depictions I've seen:
One with long sleeves and trousers with a little Smurf hat(forgot what they're called)
And
One with long, loose robes with a long, man skirt thing(I also forgot what they're called) with a crown looking object on their head.
Which one is correct? Or are they both correct?
ONE LAST THING: Is the portrayal with robes practical? As in, could they have fought in it effectively? Was it appropriate for warfare?
Thanks for taking the time to read all this and replying
Quickly BB, to the Persiamobile!
We do have numerous artistic sources as to what Achaemenid Guardsmen look like, mostly from Persepolis:
As can be seen from this picture, they wore long robes, boots that were probably leather and caps. The robes were traditional Persian dress.
In the next picture:
We can see they could also wear more vertical hats. In battle they would wear scale armor, and Herodotus mentions the Persians did wear trousers on campaign, so the robes were most likely for parade and guard duties.
