So I was watching the trailer for this upcoming movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_5_BLt76c0 (Padmavati, 2017, Hindi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.)
The villain is Ala ud-din Khalji, and we see him running with a slightly less brightly coloured version of the flag of the All-India Muslim League (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-India_Muslim_League). I was wondering if this is historically accurate or at least plausible.
Googling around, it seems that the Muslim League did draw their inspiration from Turkish flags, and the Delhi Sultanate was founded by Mamluks from there, so that makes it more plausible. On the other hand, Khalji seems to be of the second dynasty, who were from Turkey originally but more immediately settled in Afghanistan. And more to the point, the Turkish flags I can find (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_the_Ottoman_Empire) are all red. So, my amateur googling wasn't very informative.
Can anyone here tell me?
I can only answer part of your question, but because Ala ud-Din Khilji was reigning near the end of the 1200s and early 1300s and was far removed from Anatolia, it is unlikely that he used any of the Ottoman flags.
