I have a question about something I heard from a history professor a few years ago. Not sure if there is any truth to it.

According to Simon Schama in his book "Citizens," the National Assembly was locked out by workmen preparing the hall for a ceremonial address by Louis XVI. The delegates took offense at being locked out, thinking this was intentional rather than inadvertent, and so they turned to the tennis court owned by the friend of Dr. Guillotin.

I would assume that the story of a drowned groundskeeper is false.
