What is “Thriddendele” ?

by BillohRly

I was looking up a 13th century recipe for a pine nut candy and came across an ingredient called Thriddendele. What is it?

It means "a third portion", or simply "one third", which will probably make more sense in context. Thridden, as in third, and dele as in deal out or deal up. It sometimes denotes a specific liquid measurement, a third of a gallon. The MED entry has some citations from recipes, which might be of some help in working out how it's being used in this instance.
