Hoping for some research pointers on decolonization in Algeria...

by orwells_elephant

As the title says, I'm to do a research project on decolonization in Algeria. What I'm considering at the moment is examining how that decolonization has been portrayed in popular culture. I'm having trouble with finding material, though. I know I'm going to examine The Battle of Algiers movie from 1966, but I'm having a difficult time finding something comparable to use in a comparison/contrast that is specifically an example of pop culture rather than an academic treatment, and hoped someone might be able to suggest something or point me in the right direction.

Hello there. Your question seems to be related to school work, so we just want to remind you, and any potential respondents, that our rules DO permit people to ask for help with their homework, so long as they are seeking clarification or resources, rather than the answer itself. This policy is further explained in this META Thread.

Additionally, while our users may be able to help you out here, we hope that you also will take the time to check out our six-part series, "Finding and Understanding Sources", which should hopefully prove to be helpful for you as you continue in your research.

Hey there, not really an area of expertise for me and I haven't seen/read all of these works, but off the top of my head have you considered:

Obviously the vast majority of the relevant material will be in French or Arabic.

I would also suggest starting with academic treatments of the culture of decolonization and then looking for the pop-culture works that those pieces discuss.
