I'm reading through Anthony Beevor's "The Second World War", and I wanted to check as to his reputation amongst the historical community. Throughout my reading, I haven't read anything obviously false or incredibly biases, he does seem to have a lesser opinion of American contributions in North Africa, but I don't know enough about the topic to say if that is reasonable. Anyone versed on WW2, what's your opinion on Beevor and his work?
Personally, I think he's an exceptional WW2 historian. I've read only Stalingrad, Berlin 1945, and Normandy, with Ardenne in queue. He has a sober and un-encumbered approach to examining and reevaluating facts and historical documentations, all thoroughly researched, that I appreciate.
I suppose he's also lucky that he has access to declassified stuffs that older historians like Cornelius Ryan did not.
Edit: a letter and a sentence.
