Quick correction: he's not exactly the god of war, Chinese Buddhists worship him as a Bodhisattva, and Daoists worship him as a guardian spirit. Some modern day Chinese even worship him as some sort of a god of fortune, putting his shrine in shops and restaurants to bless them with good business.
