Everyone knows that Hugo Boss designed the Nazis' uniforms, but how did American WWII servicemen come to have such snazzy uniforms? Even compared to US WWI duds they seem much more aesthetically appealing. Were they designed with this purpose in mind?

Just a correction as regards your question, but not an answer to it: Boss didn't design Nazi uniforms. His factory, among others, won contracts to manufacture them, but, for example, the Black SS uniform was designed by Karl Diebitsch and Walter Heck.
