How do I start studying WW2?

by HistoryBeatsScience

Hello, I'm an absolute beginner in studying WW2 and that's why I'm here. After watching Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan I've been obsessed with the War. Unfortunately, I don't know where to start my journey. I need some recommendations. I would like to start off with a nice big overview of the war. What are some good books in that category? What should I read after an overview? My main interest is the war in the western front so that's where I want to focus my research. Thanks for the help in advance!

Not to discourage other recommendations, but you might find the AskHistorians book page on WWII useful.

I personally enjoyed reading James Holland's "The war in the west" series, but it does only talk about Europe, and to some degree America. In addition you should, as deVerence said, check out the subreddits book recomendations on WWII.

If you're interested in the Japanese side of the war and want to learn something about their internal politics as well as the military aspect I'd recommend John Toland's The Rising Sun. Ian Toll's books are a good overview of the Pacific war from the American perspective.
