I don’t know exactly what I want to go into, but I want to major in something history related. I live in TX and do not want to go too far from the state. Of course I’ve looked it up, but I’m interested in Reddit’s opinions. Thank you!
I'm not sure this is the best place to ask, but it doesn't seem against the rules so I can give you what I know.
Texas has a lot of very large, very high quality schools. Without knowing what you want to study, you can generally assume that most high ranking large universities tend to have good history programs. This means schools like Rice University, University of Texas-Austin, Texas A&M University are likely to have great programs in history, which would be true. But they may not have professors who cover your desired topics.
What it really comes down to what fits your needs. Where can you afford? Do you like the professors? Do you like the atmosphere of the school? Do they offer the degree track/trajectory or program you want? And so on. If you want to pursue a graduate degree in history you need to get even more picky and really think about why you are studying history and where is your best fit.
