Russian response to the Iranian Hostage Crisis

by bjuandy

Had a friend claim that the Soviet embassy was overrun in the Iranian revolution, and the Iranian government took hostages. The Soviet government responded by capturing the hostage takers' families and sending body parts to the Iranian government, and got their people quickly released. This smells like apocrypha, but did some version of this happen or have the Russian/Soviet government ever done anything similar in other cases?

Could you clarify your question? Your title and your question does not match up. Are you talking about the Soviet Union's response to the American Embassy Hostage Crisis in 1979, or are you asking if there was a similar hostage crisis in the U.S.S.R. Embassy in Iran?

I believe your friend was talking about Soviet hostages in Beirut. Here is the article.
